Uviglie Castle was founded in 1322 at the behest of the Pocaparte family, local lords of Monferrato.
Over the centuries it passed into the hands of the Pico family and, from 1499, the Pico-Gonzaga family, thanks to its official adoption by the Gonzaga family of Mantua.
Over time it became not only a noble residence but a crossroads of historical, spiritual and cultural personalities, until its contemporary transformation into a place of events, reception and memory.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Ancient Epoch - The Parish Church of St. Eusebius<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t

Centuries before the Castle was built, a place of Christian worship already stood on the hill of Uviglie. It is to this tradition that the Pieve di San Eusebio, dedicated to the first bishop of Piedmont and great evangelizer of the region, is linked. <\/p><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

1322 - Foundation of the Castle<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t

Theodore I Paleologus, marquis of Monferrato, granted the Pocaparte family a license to build the fortification: the Castle of Uviglie was officially born.\n\n<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

1499 - The Turning Point of the Gonzaga<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t

Giovanni Antonio Pico obtains feudal investiture. Through adoption by the Gonzaga of Mantua, the Pico-Gonzaga branch of Uviglie was born, destined to rule the fief for centuries. <\/p><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

1680 - Castle becomes county<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t

The fief is elevated to a hereditary county by Ferdinand Carlo Gonzaga. Privileges such as the right of asylum and noble Chaplaincy are recognized. \n\n<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

1879 - Armodio Callori and the nineteenth-century restoration<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t

The last of the great lords of the castle, Armodio Callori entrusts a major restoration to the architect Arborio Mella. He dies without heirs, leaving the castle to his sister. \n\n<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

1904 - The connection with FIAT<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t

Emanuele Cacherano of Bricherasio, grandson of Armodio and one of the founders of FIAT, inherits the castle. A cultured and visionary man, he makes the manor a place of inspiration and cultural dialogue. \n\n<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

1940s - The shelter during the war<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t

During the bombing of Turin, the Missionaries of the Consolata moved there sacred objects and the body of Blessed Allamano, founder of the Order, now proclaimed a saint in 2024.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

1974 - New Private Life<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t

The castle is purchased by a private company that starts a path of recovery and enhancement, geared toward events, cultural tourism and hospitality.\n\n<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Today, Uviglie Castle is a harmonious ensemble of historical, architectural, and landscape testimonies.<\/strong><\/p>

Thanks to meticulous conservation work, each space tells the story of the eras it has passed through: from the monumental fifteenth-century cellars to the Hanging Garden, from the Church of San Eusebio to the Historic Park designed by the Roda Brothers.<\/p>
